Hello, I just wanted to introduce myself as someone new to the Debbie Bliss KAL. I thought I'd post a photo of a Fair Isle hat I made using some Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino and pattern from her book, Family Knits. I try to collect all her Fair Isle patterns and admire every single one. Two years ago I found a copy of her "Traditional Knitting from the Scottish and Irish Isles" and even though I haven't tried one pattern, I just love looking at the photos. Debbie Bliss wrap around cardigan I tried to use the required yarn but it was impossible to find so I had to substitute it with lion brand baby soft which wasn't so bad, it knits up nice and soft and has a nice drape to it and makes it a very affordable knit! the pattern can be found in the Debbie Bliss Easy knits page 54.
Pattern: Debbie Bliss wrap around cardigan.
Yarn: Lion brand baby soft, a little over 2 balls,
Needles:3.25mm and 3.75 mm,

Notes: The patterns calls for both shoulders to have buttons but I only knit the buttonholes on one side because I had three stash buttons that I thought would work.

I just love stripes but I don't like how they look on me...hence another baby sweater in stripes. This one will be gifted to my cousin and his wife who are expecting their first in late May. The baby shower is May 3rd but I'm sure I'll have this done by then.

Pattern: Striped Sweater by Debbie Bliss (in Simply Baby)
Yarn: Rowan Pure Wool (Beige and Graphite - yarn left over from my brother's Christmas Scarf and my Smocked Cardigan)

So far, the front/back and one sleeve are complete and I'll hopefully have the second sleeve completed this weekend. Then I promise to get my act together and find cute buttons for this. I have a huge urge to use any kind of nautical-themed buttons!

A finished knit! Whew it had been a long time. This is what I call Curly's Shrug. In reality it is the Baby Shrug from Simply Baby by Debbie Bliss.

Let me state that I substituted yarn, though remaining in the Aran and Debbie Bliss lines. The pattern calls for two balls to complete a 3-6 month size. Slight fib there (unless of course the Cashmerino Aran has more yardage than the Merino Aran, which in all honesty, I have not verified). This necessitated a return trip to the yarn shop for a third ball. Other than some risky business picking up stitches along the edges, this shrug went off without a hitch. Quick, easy and cute. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

I knitted my first toy ever! It's bunny from the Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino 2 book. I love her, she's called Esme. She is for my newest neice, Florence, born last Thursday! She was quick and easy to knit. I made her in cotton cashmere, and her dress is baby bamboo.

I have finally started a Debbie Bliss pattern! I have the ribbon edge cardigan on the needles...in Baby Cashmerino of course! I absolutely love this yarn...it is my all time favourite to knit with.

The buttery colour is just perfect for the little girl that is due to a friend in November.

Hi all,

I joined awhile back and didn't get around to sending an intro. I'm a fairly new knitter but I absolutely love Debbie Bliss' yarn and patterns. I recently finished my first baby socks using the "Two Tone" pattern in Simply Baby. Once I get the camera up, I'll update this post w/a pic. I used DBs Baby Cashmerino with some Lion Brand Micro Spun.

I'm now planning my next project and again it will probably be a baby item. I also recently purchased the Family Knits book and see quite a few things I may be willing to tackle. Oh, I forgot, my name is Dawn and you can visit me here. I am learning a lot and have enjoyed reading all your posts.

This is the cotton dk sweater from Debbie Bliss Home. I made mine longer than the pattern called for so that I could take it to the beach as a cover-up. It took 23 skeins of DB cotton dk in seafoam. I am very happy with it and will probably use it a lot. More photos on my blog.

Hi, I just finished my Edwardian Jacket from Debbie Bliss Simply Soft booklet. It is knit in Cashmerino Astrakhon. It is a very warm and comfy sweater so I am going to pack it away for next winter! More pictures here. Next; I have two summer-weight Debbie Bliss sweaters on the needles.

I finished this sweater for my nephew in February, but am just now posting about it. I think he looks pretty cute (but then again, I am his aunt) !

Pattern - Hooded Sweater by Debbie Bliss Special Knits
Yarn - Annie Blatt No. 4 (100% wool) Color 519 (a brick red)
Needles - US size 7, Bryspun circulars
Modifications - None except for the yarn. The pattern called for DB Cashmerino Aran which I love. But I wanted to do some stash busting and had bought this yarn last summer at the Yarn Lady Bag Sale. This was the second time I've made this sweater and for some reason I couldn't figure out the pattern for the hood. First time...not a problem. Second time, it came out backwards. Weird. I'd make it again. I think it's cute and simple. The only thing I would change is the seam at the top of the hood. If I could find a pattern for a seamless hood, I'd like it better.

I'm still working on my Rib & Cable Jacket from the Wish You Were Here book. It's been slow going because of my work schedule. The back is done, now I'm working on the front. I'll try yo post a picture in the near future.

Simple Wrapover finished.

Yea! I was not in my grove on this one, so I had to re-knit the fronts (several times). But I am happy with how it turned out. You wouldn't know it on my blog because I got so frustrated with myself. The sweater is soft and feather light. I love the dark blue color, but it's so hard to photograph. Here are the details:

Pattern: Simple Wrapover from Alpaca Silk Two by Debbie Bliss
Yarn: Debbie Bliss Alpaca Silk DK in Dark Blue
Needles: Bamboo US 7 Circ
Started: December 4, 2006
Finished: March 21, 2007
Notes: After getting through the wonky increases on front panels, all went smooth. In retrospect, I could have made the next size or two down. The alpaca is quite stretchy, which I did not factor in. Lesson learned. I also used 3 yds of ribbon to allow for a wrap all the way around for a front tie, instead of tie in the back.

I have some baby knitting to do for a friend, so I am turning to another Debbie Bliss pattern or two. Watch for details.

It seems like lots of knitting these days is Debbie Bliss, so I thought I'd update the KAL! I finished the knitting for the Humbug Pillow from Home, and it will probably be a while before making the inside pillow . . .

In the meantime, I'm discovering Debbie Bliss' baby patterns! There's a new baby on the way in my circle of friends, and I couldn't be more excited! After extensive searches through every baby knitting book in three bookstores, I picked up Debbie Bliss' Simply Baby, which is full of cute patterns that are simple enough even I am not bothered by the author's complete and utter refusal to ever use something as plebian as schematics. But I digress.

So, the baby sweater. I started with this cute little gem called something creative like "Hooded Jacket," and it's coming out very well.

Above you see the back up to the armholes, and since taking that photo (on the beach chair again - this is great SoCal knitting!) I've finished both fronts also up to the armholes. A couple of sleeves, a yoke, a hood - something tells me picking the button could be the hardest part!

I think I'll start with one of those, but then I'm planning to knit an adult Debbie Bliss sweater. I usually knit baby ones, but I think I'm ready for a bigger challenge.

I knitted the felted bag from the Debbie Bliss Home book. There are some great patterns in the book, and I would definitely knit this bag again, maybe tweak it a little to make the handles a litttle thicker. I do love it though and I have had a lot of compliments on it...which is always nice.

I am new here after finishing my first Debbie Bliss knit a few weeks ago. It's a baby shrug from Simply Baby. Details on my blog. (To go straight to the post click here.) With my sister's permission I'll soon post a photo or two of my niece wearing it. She happened to be wearing a complimenting light blue dress the day of the party, and it matched perfectly! I'm looking forward to trying some of the other patterns in the book but am intrigued also by many other Debbie Bliss books. Has anyone tried any of the patterns from Celtic Knits?

I am having gauge issues. I hate gauge issues. Oh, and I hate reading directions correctly issues. And executing simple MA issues. And project attention deficit issues. And . . . Need I go on? This project has not been blessed by the knitting goddess.

I love Debbie Bliss Patterns and Debbie Bliss yarn. Period. End of Story. But I don't like when I rush into something, completely disregarding my responsibility to pay attention. It seems that I jumped in too fast. In my excitement, I did not read the pattern correctly or count my number of stitches on the gauge swatch correctly. I think Mr. Rogers sang:

I like to take my time to do it right.
I just might have to make a mistake
If I should have to hurry up
And so I like to take my time.

Well, I did not listen to Mr. Rogers on this one. I will be tinking back to before the increases on the front left panel. Ouch. That's 30 rows. Guess I'll slow down a bit.

I joined the KAL awhile back, but didn't cast on until this month. I'm making the Cable & Rib Jacket from Wish You Were Here. I'm really enjoying this pattern so far. The twisted stitches mixed in with the rib pattern keep the knitting interesting. I love the texture of the pattern and the stitch definition of the yarn. I'm using Debbie Bliss Wool/Cotton (the pattern calls for DB Cotton Cashmere). I've had this yarn in my stash for two years and have been waiting to find the right pattern for it. I finally found one I'm excited about. The yarn is nice and soft. It's a little splitty though. Only a problem with the twisted stitches and if I drop a stitch. I can deal with it. I'm looking forward to finishing the back and getting to the front panels which involves cables.

I'm a little over halfway done with the back. This project involves a zipper which I've never attempted before. So anyone with experience and tips, your suggestions are welcome. For now I'll enjoy the knitting.

Instead, recently I've been working on the Humbug Pillow from Home.It's a great mindless project for studying or reading or catching up on knitting blogs. As for that Denim Aran, it'll make an appearance sometime this year as part of the 2007 UFO Resurrection Challenge.

I have finished my Debbie Bliss project! Took me a while, because a rib pattern throughout an entire project feels, after a while, as is it's taking you twice as long as a normal sweater. But it's done and I wore it today for the first time.
Pattern: Shaped Edge Sweater, from Out of Town. I knit it in small with 14 balls of Debbie Bliss Cashmerino aran, and ended with only half a ball left over. I had to shortern the raglan part of the sleeve, because while my gauge was accurate from a number of stitches point of view, it was off for the number of rows (24 rows for 4 inches instead of 26 rows). And since the whole portion of the sleeve is calculated on # of rows rather than measured length, I ended up with a humongous sleeve. I had to frog part of one sleeve, recalculate the decreases and it was fine. The sleeves are still long, but I wanted them long, and I just roll the ends when I don't want the length. I also made the turtleneck a bit shorter, just because I didn't want that long.
It is a very comfy, soft and warm sweater to wear. I love it!
The real colour is actually darker than this, more wine-coloured (the colour code is 330013, for those who are interested). The flash makes it look a lot lighter than it is. My next project is the shrug from the Debbie Bliss Cathay book in a lovely blue colour.

My first KAL. What makes it even better . . . It's a Debbie Bliss KAL!

I am going to knit the Simple Wrapover Sweater from Alpaca Silk Two. Here and there is some background information on my progress to date. Since I love the sample sweater, I am not going out on a limb and will knit as shown. Color, yarn and all. Ok, size may be a touch larger. . .

Right now, I have the right front panel finished. I have both stitch and row gauge. So I am hoping for a great fit.

Since I don't know all the "rules" for a KAL, please feel free to reel me back if I get crazy or miss something.

I just joined the KAL and I wanted to say hi. I am knitting a Debbie Bliss sweater out of Simply Soft but I thought I would put up a picture of my last Debbie Bliss FO. It is a felted bag made out of Debbie Bliss Alpaca Silk from the Debbie Bliss Home book. I finished it at the very end of October and have used it quite a bit since. I plan on making at least one more when I get the chance since it has a very neat circular design on the base. I hope to get enough of my sweater done to post something next week.

Look what two balls of DB Cashmerino Aran can make!

I love the Tweedy Beret in the Winter 2006 issue and had it on the list of to do, that is until it started to snow yesterday and I thought I might make good use of a new beret.

I cast on yesterday afternoon and finished it this afternoon. It is an easy knit and the way the designer transitions to k1 ribbing is great, the only problem was that the directions for decreasing were a bit sketchy. Does that stop a knitter near the end and wanting and needing a new hat? You got it, NO! I did it my way and I am very happy with the knit.

I am beginning to have some doubts regarding Katy/Sam and Cotton Angora after reading a few reviews of both Katy's pattern and the yarn itself.

I love the colour and the yarn feels fantastic to touch but to quote the review on Knitter's Review "I would recommend against any significantly ribbed or cabled patterns. Initially, they will look absolutely beautiful. But there isn't enough bounce or fiber memory to hold their shape with wear." Sam is ribbed and Katy is cabled. Maybe I'll swatch and wash tonight and see what happens.

Any one have any thoughts? Has anyone else used this yarn or knit the pattern?

Hello! I am going to be knitting the Ski Sweater from Debbie's Cashmerino DK book. I was lucky enough to try it on at a coffee morning that Debbie did at Peter Jones and it was one of those sweaters that just fit perfectly, hugging in all the right places. I'd have run off with it there and then if I could have.

I am waiting for the yarn to arrive (it should be here tomorrow) and I'll be using it as my antidote to Xmas knitting - I think all of those scarves and socks are likely to drive me mad otherwise.

The pattern includes a yoke and I have never attempted one to date, so I am sure that I'll be crying for help at one point or another.

Help me find my motivation!
When I saw that Carolyn was starting this KAL I was thrilled. Partly because I have a secret love for Debbie Bliss, and partly because I can't seem to finish a single one of her patterns. I have Debbie Finish-itis, I suppose.
Here is Beth, from Junior Knits. I am embarrassed to say that it has been over a year since I started this baby and while it will still fit my daughter in the body, I have to re-knit the sleeves. I'm thinking about adding a folded-over cuff to the sleeve so that I only have to knit one more sleeve....

This is my first time participating in a KAL even though I've had my blog for over a year. I just finished some mittens and a scarf with Debbie Bliss Merino Aran (Pictures).

I have never knit a Debbie Bliss pattern before even though I own
Baby Knits for Beginners and Cotton Angora. I think my plan will be to finally pick a pattern from Cotton Angora and order some from Elann.com on Nov. 14 when it goes on sale.

I'm thinking of either Black Raspberry or French Navy for the colour and maybe Sam or Katy:

Knitting a Classic!

I'm working on the Denim Aran from Debbie Bliss' Celtic Knits. I picked this up at a used bookstore about a year ago, and there are so many patterns in here I want to knit! Since I moved to San Diego recently, I need to stop knitting wool sweaters and start knitting cotton ones, so I thought it was the perfect time to start experimenting with denim.

I do know of some places with discounted debbie bliss yarn and I will try to post those for you. Although, it is not necessary to use her yarn, but if you can it is well worth it.
